Design Typography Notes


  • Serif vs Sans Serif
  • Don't use too many fonts, only use two complementary fonts
  • Definition is important
  • ALL CAPS IS LIKE SHOUTING
  • Alignment is important, it helps eye flow 

Use Italics, Size, Color, Typestyle Change, or Bold with discretion

Keep the integrity of your text

Is you font heavy, or light?

The Mac is not a typewriter, Kerning keeps the distance between each letter exactly equal.
Kerning makes the letters form in a visually pleasing way.

Tracking increases or decreases the distance between letters.

Rag is a term to describe how to end of your paragraphs look

You can create lines and fill them with blocks of letters

Color assignment Part A,B and C



What are the 3 primary colors? 
Red, Blue, Yellow.

How are secondary colors created? Cite an example 
They are made by mixing two primary colors. Ex. red and blue make purple.

How are tertiary colors created? Cite an example 
They are made by mixing one primary color, and two of another primary color. Ex. red, blue, and blue = blue purple.

What is the difference between subtractive and additive color models? 
Subtractive represents mixing color with paint, while additive represents mixing light.

How can color affect our perception? 
They can make other colors look different or pop out more.

How does one color affect another? 
They can affect the intensities of each other, and make the pigments look different.
